Sleek designs, lightweight frames, touchscreens and high-end graphics never cease to amaze people. Then over in the corner sit the big, bulky and less attention-grabbing desktop computers. In fact, you may wonder, “Why does the store even bother to sell them anymore? Aren’t desktops dead?”

Longer Lifespan, Timeless Technology

Though laptops and tablets are far more exciting than desktops, the fact is that PCs are not going anywhere. They are very much alive – and for good reason. But why does it appear that workstation PCs aren’t getting the same love as their smaller, portable counterparts?

The main reason for this is because desktop computers last longer. Laptops, tablets and smartphones need to be replaced every few years. They slow down, their technology becomes outdated and they don’t have the latest features that everyone is after.

Workstation PCs, on the other hand, aren’t packed with time-sensitive features. They hold their value longer, and they have a far greater lifespan. People who buy them aren’t popping back into the electronics store to buy a new one in another year or two. Plus, if a PC needs to be repaired or upgraded, it can be. There are always advances that can be made to perfect a gaming PC.

CAD Software

Another reason why desktops are far from dead is that they are the only machines capable of handling certain tasks. A laptop doesn’t have enough power to handle computer-aided design. Though it’s not impossible to run CAD software on laptops, the results are far, far greater on a powerful CAD workstation PC. These systems contain the best graphics, processors and programs for adequate support, stability and power.

PC Gaming

We can’t ignore the hardcore gaming market either. PC gaming offers the best visuals, unlimited controller options, upgradeable hardware and game mods that make the user experience as close to real as possible. Yet the only way to enjoy this level of gaming is with a dedicated gaming computer. These computers are built specifically for gaming enthusiasts, and they can be upgraded over time to support the latest games.

Gaming computers may not be going out the doors as frequently as laptops or tablets, but they still have their place on the market. No longer are desktops the loud, clunky and noisy machines they used to be. Today they’re sleek, modern and packed with power, perfect for those who work from home, use CAD software or enjoy PC gaming.

When you shop at an electronics or computer store, you’ll see people hovered around the latest laptops and tablets, oohing…

[24

Why Desktops are Far from Dead

<meta name="description" content="Though laptops and tablets are far more exciting than desktops, the fact is that PCs are not going anywhere.
