Both chipsets fully support the new processors (as well as previous AM5 socket CPUs) and seem to have similar features. So when comparing X670 vs X870, which is the best choice?<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/img\/blog\/x870\/3.png\" alt=\"x670\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>X670 Chipset<\/h2>\n<p>The X670 chipset is the older of the two, originally released as the solution for high-end users who wanted the best possible performance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/blog\/x670-vs-b650-which-amd-am5-chipset-is-right-for-you\/\">compared to the more mainstream B650<\/a>. X670 offers a number of higher end features for AM5 CPUs such as PCIe 5.0, 44 PCIe lanes, multiple SATA and USB 10 Gbps ports, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/blog\/what-are-motherboard-vrms\/\">high end VRMs<\/a>. Even though X670 was released with the original batch of AM5 Ryzen 7000 processors, these motherboards still fully support the newer Ryzen 9000 using the latest BIOS.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/img\/blog\/x870\/2.png\" alt=\"x870\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>X870 Chipset<\/h2>\n<p>Announced alongside Ryzen 9000, X870 chipset motherboards were originally held back from release <span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">for a few months, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">likely so manufacturers could sell though X670 inventory, but are now set to become available at the end of September. <strong>X870 includes all of the features of X670 with the addition of the following<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/blog\/usb4-what-is-it\/\">USB 4.0<\/a> standard on all boards<\/li>\n<li>PCIe Gen5 on graphics AND NVMe M.2 (though this was available on almost all X670E and B650E)<\/li>\n<li>Higher EXPO memory clock support for overall faster RAM speeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What about X870E?<\/h2>\n<p>Like X670 and B650 before it, AMD has also released an \u201cExtreme\u201d versions of X870, abbreviated as \u201cE.\u201d X870E the same features but with a different allocation of PCIe Gen 4 and Gen 5. X670E has 20 lanes dedicated to Gen 5 vs 4 with X670. If you recently built or purchased a new X670\/X670E PC, there&#8217;s very little reason to upgrade unless you simply have to have that USB 4 for some reason. Likewise if you&#8217;re looking to buy in the near future before the X870 stock becomes fully available.
