They offer processors ranging from 6 to 18 cores with full hyperthreading support.<\/p>\n<p>All that power comes at a price, then top end Intel i9-9980XE comes in at $1,799.99. That certainly isn\u2019t cheap, especially when compared to competing AMD Threadripper CPU\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2242\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/img\/blog\/amd-vs-intel\/amdlogo.png\" alt=\"amd logo\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>AMD Workstation CPU Line<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX<\/li>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX<\/li>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 2950X<\/li>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 2920X<\/li>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 1950X<\/li>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 1920X<\/li>\n<li>Ryzen Threadripper 1900X<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocitymicro.com\/blog\/xeon-vs-i7i5-whats-difference\/\">Intel CPU<\/a>\u2019s still maintain a slight edge when it comes to instructions per clock. That is 16 extra physical cores for $100 less dollars than Intel\u2019s most powerful chip.<\/p>\n<p>This type of value can be found up and down AMD\u2019s line when compared to Intel\u2019s workstation chips. At each intel price point you can find a Threadripper part offering more cores and similar clock speeds.<\/p>\n<h2>Choosing the CPU for You<\/h2>\n<p><em>Note: Intel also offers Xeon processors with ECC RDIMM memory support<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For most users, the AMD price to performance ratio will make it the best choice. However, if core count is not as important to you as clock speed or IPC, the intel line is still king in the department.<\/p>\n<p>If your workload still benefits from high single core speeds, Intel is definitely worth a look.
