Flourishing custom PC maker opens state-of-the-art facility to service increased business from direct customers and Best Buy.
Richmond, VA – November 28 2006 – Prompted by stellar growth in its core direct custom-PC business and expanding retail and made-to-order relationship with Best Buy, Velocity Micro, the award-winning manufacturer of high-performance PCs, announced today the company’s move to a new state-of-the-art production facility and corporate headquarters.
The new Richmond, Va., center of operations represents a fourfold increase in the square footage devoted to desktop and laptop manufacturing, testing, and support. The additional space was needed to serve Velocity Micro’s growing customer base of PC enthusiasts, professional users, businesses, and corporate and government clients, as well as to accommodate continued expansion of the company’s relationship with Best Buy. Velocity Micro PCs are now carried in more than 270 Best Buy retail locations nationwide as well as on www.BestBuy.com, and are available through the retailer’s online build-to-order program.
“We’ve enjoyed phenomenal growth the past several years, and this move is a very exciting and significant milestone for our company,” said Randy Copeland, Velocity Micro President and CEO. “Our business model is resonating with customers, and their continued loyalty is a testament to our approach of carefully hand-building each PC using only the best components available, then backing those machines with the best customer service in the industry.”
The expansive production floor at the new facility allows Velocity Micro to maintain the level of hand-craftsmanship, hand-tuning, and hand-testing the company is famous for, while accommodating its remarkable growth rate. Customer care and support departments have also grown in the expanded facility, which allows Velocity Micro to offer an even better customer experience and improve its industry-leading technical support.
In choosing a new location, Copeland knew it was important to stay in the company’s current home base of Richmond, Va. “Our most important differentiators are our expert production staff and in-house tech support. So when it came time to expand, staying here in Richmond, near our team of trained, dedicated employees, was critical,” he said. “This fantastic community is our home, and we’re thrilled to be helping it grow into a premier region for technology companies.”
