When is the Best Time to Buy a Gaming Computer?

Gaming computers can be expensive, but there are certain times of the year when you can get a bargain. The key is knowing when to make the investment. It’s a smart idea to look at prices throughout the year because you never know when that workstation PC you’ve had your heart set on may drop in price. This typically happens when a new model is coming out and the manufacturer wants to clear out older models. But, there are certain times of the year when you’re more likely to find attractive prices. Let’s take a look.

Back-to-School Sales

According to budget experts, July, August and September are the best months to buy desktop and laptop computers. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, school is starting up and computer manufacturers want to sell to the college demographic. Making their prices more attractive boosts sales, so it’s more likely that you can catch a deal at this time of the year.

To save even more money, look for bundle deals. These are typically geared toward the college population and include a laptop or workstation PC along with things like a laptop sleeve, antivirus software, computer cleaning kit or printer. If you need all of these items, bundle packages are a great way to save money. The downside is that your options in terms of computers are more limited.

New Processors Released

The second reason why September is a great month to buy a gaming PC is because chipmakers Intel and AMD start releasing their new processors. This prompts retailers to mark down their older models and make room for new inventory. When this new hardware is launched, all high end gaming computers start integrating this new technology because it’s faster, better and has improved architecture.

Depending on how you use your computer, you may not notice the difference between a new processor and an older one, so you can benefit from buying last year’s model. However, if you plan on using your gaming computer for hardcore gaming, you may find that its money well spent if you wait for the next generation of processors to come out.

Fall Specials

There’s still time to buy your new computer this month, but if you’re not ready, don’t think you’ve missed reduced prices for good. There are still plenty of opportunities to score a great deal on a gaming computer including Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Just be sure that you’re quick on these deals, as inventory is usually limited and gaming PCs go quickly!
