How do I manually (force) install drivers in Vista?
It is assumed that you have already EXTRACTED the contents of the .EXE (or other file archive) driver you downloaded to a directory of your choosing. The default driver location on VM systems is on your local disk C:\DRIVERS folder.
Click on START > right-click COMPUTER > click MANAGE
In the left panel of the Computer Management Console, click DEVICE MANAGER
In the right panel of the Computer Management Console, double-click {DEVICE CATEGORY} > double-click {GENERIC DEVICE NAME}
Click on the DRIVERS tab > click the UPDATE DRIVER button
Click BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE > at the bottom click LET ME PICK FROM A LIST OF DEVICE DRIVERS ON MY COMPUTER
Click the HAVE DISK button > click the BROWSE button > navigate to your extraction location and double-click the FOLDER containing the drivers you extracted earlier
Click OPEN > click OK > double-click {SPECIFIC DEVICE NAME}> click INSTALL THE DRIVER SOFTWARE ANYWAY > (wait while loading driver)
Click CLOSE on the Driver Wizard> click CLOSE on the Device Properties dialog> click the X to close the Computer Management Console
